Makers Common is more than an art studio.
It’s a place where creativity is celebrated, confidence grows and community comes together.
At Makers Common, everyone is welcome. From curious preschoolers and homeschooling families to school-aged children, adults and complete beginners, our welcoming studio brings together people from Lennox Head and across the Northern Rivers to learn new skills, explore their creativity and experience the joy of making.
At Makers Common, we love to teach the creative process of making without the pressure of getting it ‘right’. There are no expectations and no judgement—just encouragement, the freedom to explore new things, and the reminder that making something with your own hands is good for the soul.
We encourage exploration, imagination and independence through hands-on experiences that celebrate individual expression. Our art classes and workshops are intentionally small and relaxed, giving every maker the opportunity to experiment with a wide variety of materials and art forms, including painting, printmaking, mixed media, sewing, textiles, clay and mosaics.
Every class at Makers Common is thoughtfully designed to combine my experience as a visual arts teacher with my love of making and sharing creativity with others. My hope is to create a welcoming place where every maker feels encouraged to try something new, discover what they love and experience the simple joy of creating alongside others.
Meet the Chief Maker!
Hi, I'm Lisa.
Makers Common was founded from a simple belief: creativity is for everyone.
I'm a passionate visual arts teacher, creative enthusiast and mum of two boys who believes that everyone deserves the opportunity to explore, make and feel proud of what they've created.
My creative journey began in London where I completed a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Fashion Design before working in the fashion industry for ten years across London and Melbourne. My career later took a new direction when I became a specialist visual arts teacher, teaching Visual Arts across primary and secondary schools for more than ten years. During that time, I saw firsthand the confidence, curiosity and joy that creativity can unlock in children and young people.
When I'm not teaching, you'll usually find me working on my own creative projects. I love exploring different art forms including painting, printmaking, sewing, textiles and clay, and I almost always have a project on the go.
After moving to Lennox Head, I wanted to create something that extended beyond the classroom—a welcoming creative studio where the whole community could experience the benefits of making.
My hope is simple: that every person who walks through the door leaves feeling welcome enough to be creative, connected enough to stay, and confident enough to try something they never thought they could.
As our community of makers grows, so will our range of art classes and creative workshops. Every class at Makers Common has been thoughtfully designed to inspire confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of creativity.
